Hotel 1919 is in a house of great historical significance to Icelanders. In the year 1914 Icelanders formed their first steamship company in an effort to gain more autonomy over their own affairs. The company’s offices were located in the hotel building. Construction of the building began in 1919 and that is where the hotel derives its name from.
